TUNGSTEN (O) CYCLODIENES-CARBONYLS

Tungsten 1,5-cyclooctadiene tetracarbonyl W(1,5-COD)(CO)4

Tungsten (0) 1,5-cyclooctadiene tetracarbonyl(or Tetracarbonyl(1,5-cyclooctadiene)tungsten(0) )  (M= 404.06, molecular formula C12H12O4W)) is yellow to brown powder or crystals , melting point 155-161°C [i]

Tungsten 1,5-cyclooctadiene tetracarbonyl W(1,5-COD)(CO)4 is synthesized by interaction of tungsten tricarbonyl tris(acetonitrile adduct) with 1,5-cyclooctadiene (C8H12) in boiling n-hexane (at 69°C):  W(CO)3(MeCN)3 + 1,5-COD → W(1,5-COD)(CO)4  (n-Hexane, 69 °C)

W(η4-1,5-COD)(CO)3 for WC films by ultra high vacuum MOCVD

W(η4-1,5-COD)(CO)3 was applied as tungsten source for MOCVD, for example for the deposition of W-C layers by  cold-wall ultra-high vacuum (1 – 2 mTorr) MOCVD. The source compound W(η4-1,5-COD)(CO)3 was evaporated at 100 – 120 °C. Reflective, adherent WC layers were obtained at 540 °C, their resistivity was 300 – 1500 μWcm and composition 40 at. % W, 60 at. % C, < 1 at. % O. [[i]]
