Chromium (0) tris(trifluorphosphine) tricarbonyl Cr(PF3)3(CO)3 is a colorless crystalline, diamagnetic compound. According to IR spectrum PF3 ligands are in cis positions.
It has been synthesized by replacement reaction between triamminchromium(0) tricarbonyl with trifluorphosphine under pressure: Cr(NH3)3(CO)3 + 3 PF3 → Cr(PF3)3(CO)3 . In contrast, with mesitilene chromium or with chromium hexacarbonyl PF3 forms mixtures Cr(PF3)6-n(CO)n (n≤3).
Cr(PF3)3(CO)3 is extremely volatile and is therefore potentially suitable as precursor for CVD of Cr-contaning layers.
