GADOLINIUM CYCLOPENTADIENYLS-ALKOXIDES

Gadolinium cyclopentadienyl bis(1,2-dimethyl-2-butoxide) [{Gd(OCMe2iPr)2Cp}2]

Gadolinium cyclopentadienyl bis(1,2-dimethyl-2-butoxide) [{GdCp(OCMe2iPr)2}2] was synthesized by reacting [GdCp3] with HOCMe2-i-Pr alcohol, and characterized X-ray crystallographically. The complex is dimeric, having two bridging alkoxide ligands linking two metal atoms; the coordination geometries at the metal atom is distorted tetrahedral.

[{GdCp(OCMe2iPr)2}2] (combined with O2 as oxidant) was applied as precursor for the growth of Gd2O3 thin films by hot-wall CVD. Carbon-free Gd2O3 films were obtained on Si, glass, and quartz substrates at 300–500 °C growth temperatures. The deposited Gd2O3 layers were characterized by XPS and RBS. [i],[ii]
