VANADIUM (III) HALIDES –SELENOETHER ADDUCTS

Vanadium (III) trichloride bis(dimethylselenide) [VCl3(SeMe2)2] was synthesized from VCl4 and excess selenoether SeMe2 in gently refluxing CH2Cl2 leading to reduction to VCl3 (VCl4 reacts with excess SeMe2 at RT to give [VCl3(SeMe2)2]. The obtained complex was was characterized by microanalysis, IR and UV/visible spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. The new complex [VCl3(SeMe2)2]  was tests as potential precursor for the growth of vanadium selenide layers; in the LP CVD experiments it produced very thin layers of VSe2. EDX measurements demonstrated that the obtained VSe2 layers were Se deficient.[i]
