Chromium (II) octahydrotriborate Cr(B3H8)2
Chromium (II) octahydrotriborate (octahydridotriborate) Cr(B3H8)2 - blue needles subliming at 35°/0.02 Torr. It has been prepared by treatment of CrCl3 with NaB3H8 affording a thermally unstable purple liquid chromium(III) hydride CrH(B3H8)2, rapidly converting at room temperature to the chromium(II) complex Cr(B3H8)2. It adopts a square-planar structure with four H atoms form the coordination sphere of the Cr atom. Volatile Cr(B3H8)2 is the first reported homoleptic transition metal complex of the octahydrotriborate anion [893]
Chromium (II) octahydrotriborate Cr(B3H8)2 has been used as a single-source precursor for the CVD of CrB2 thin films. High purity silvery metallic mirrors of CrB2 have been obtained at Tdep >200°C. [893,894,895]
