[(tBu)Ga(µ3-Se)]4 has been applied for the MOCVD growth to hexagonal GaSe films. It was suggested that the cubic cores in the cubane Ga-Se precursors fragment during film growth affording Ga3E3 building blocks leading to the hexagonal phases.
